The true story of the largest counterfeiting operation in history, set up by the Nazis in 1936. Salomon “Sally” Sorowitsch is thrown into the Mauthausen concentration camp, where he exhibits exceptional skills and is transferred to the upgraded camp Sachsenhausen. He gets involved in a German operation to make fake foreign currency, and is eventually faced with a moral dilemma of continuing to help the Germans in return for special treatment, or to do something else to save fellow prisoners.

Set during World War II, the innocent young boy Bruno moves to the country side with his family because his father has been assigned to take command of a prison camp. Bruno befriends a boy strangely dressed in striped pajamas who lives behind an electric fence. The forbidden friendship between the two boys has startling and unexpected consequences.
