November 13, 2018 Free Caregiver Conference
Presented by Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Memphis, Inc.

Since November 2015, Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services (ADS) has partnered with Memphis Jewish Federation, offering Yad l’Yad Support Groups, specifically geared for those in the Jewish community who are care partners of loved ones with dementia. The ongoing monthly meetings allow care partners to engage and connect, while gaining support, education and resources. Sessions are held on the third Tuesday of every month, at 7 p.m. in the Memphis Jewish Community Center conference room. ADS has been glad to collaborate with Jewish Family Service to offer this program to families.

If you have not heard yet, ADS wants to be sure care partners are aware of our upcoming conference, “A Caregiver’s Journey: The Garden in Our Backyard,” to be held on Tuesday, November 13, at Bartlett Station Municipal Center, 5868 Stage Rd., from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. On-site care will be provided for registered loved ones by Senior Helpers. Brunswick Senior Behavioral Health at Lakeside is the main sponsor for this year’s event.

There is no question that the journey of those who have a loved one with dementia can be an extremely challenging one. ADS provides the annual Caregiver Conference as part of its mission to provide support, education and resources, turning an arduous journey into a manageable one, raising awareness of the garden in our backyard and hopefully assisting care partners to even smell the roses. Whether your loved one is at home or in a facility, in early or advanced stages of dementia, this conference is for you.

This year’s Caregiver Conference will focus on local presenters and beneficial resources offered by a wide array of vendors in the Greater Memphis area. “Dealing with the Disease and the Relationships,” is the first scheduled presentation by Susan Cushman, author of the book Tangles and Plaques. The second session will include a panel to share the Benefits of Behavioral Health Centers, followed by the return of Judge Kathleen Gomes, Probate Court judge, to present once again on Legal Issues for care partners.

Afternoon sessions include: “The Long Goodbye,” to be presented by Kathryn Feinstone, Geriatric Care Manager of Attendant Care Services; a Dementia Update presented by Robyn Presley, Clinical Research Coordinator of CNS Healthcare; and a panel on the Benefits of Therapeutic Activities to be presented by specialty staff of Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services.

Continental breakfast, lunch, chair massages the vendor fair, and door prizes, are all included in this special FREE event to celebrate and empower care partners and offer the opportunity for care partners to engage and bond. There is a $20 fee for professionals, who will receive a certificate for six contact hours. Registration is required by October 31.
